State Member for Ovens Valley Tim McCurdy is calling on the Victorian Government to keep coronavirus restrictions consistent with NSW for border towns like Cobram.
Mr McCurdy said Cobram businesses continued to be disadvantaged by the temporary laws.
“As I indicated with accommodation providers, Victorian businesses need to be on even footing with their NSW counterparts,” he said.
“Local business simply don’t need cross-border issues making things even tougher than they already are.”
Mr McCurdy said some entertainment venues had not earned income in more than two months and had to stand by and watch customers spend their money across the bridge.
“Victoria has to stay on par with NSW with the easing of these restrictions. Consistency is key for our cross-border communities.
“It’s hard enough competing on a level playing field at the best of times – local clubs and venues need to be re-opened.”
A government spokesperson said Premier Daniel Andrews would continue to follow the advice of the Chief Health Officer to determine when it is appropriate and safe for licensed and gaming venues to reopen.
“Our priority is the safety and wellbeing of Victorians as we work to slow the spread of coronavirus,” the spokesperson said.
