The first grant, amounting to $5,000, was presented to the board of the Corowa Rutherglen Football Netball Club to aid in the initiation of a new community health initiative, the Ball Park Parkrun, scheduled to kick off on January 27.
Parkrun, a global event, is a free, community event where participants can walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate. The course is 5km and takes place every Saturday morning.
Event co-ordinator Emma Forrest expressed her gratitude to Club Corowa for their support in the startup of this exciting venture for locals.
“We are really excited,” she said.
“We’ve had great community involvement and look forward to continuing that.
“I would love to thank Club Corowa and all our other sponsors for their assistance. Thanks to Redgum Medical, Federation Steel, Amaranth Foundation, HC Health Hub, and HC Fitness Centre.”
Ahead of January’s scheduled date, Ms Forrest said the committee is hoping to secure plenty of volunteers including a photographer, and marshals.
“There’s been plenty of interest already which is exciting. People travel from all over to be part of Parkrun,” she said.

“Anyone who needs help registering can visit Leanne and Ray at Sportspower Corowa. I would also like to thank
Stacey Price, Robyn Schilg and Georgie Brown for jumping on board to assist through the Fischer Leadership Program.
“The Corowa Rutherglen Football Netball Club is also excited to assist through the Pay it Forward initiative.”
In addition to supporting the Ball Park Parkrun, Club Corowa also extended a helping hand to the Corowa Rescue Squad - VRA NSW.
The Rescue Squad was awarded a grant of $2,500 to enhance their emergency response capabilities with funds going towards the acquisition of essential emergency equipment, ensuring the squad is well-prepared to assist the community during unforeseen incidents.
The Corowa Rescue Squad identified a need to update and expand their current rescue equipment, especially in light of recent events such as floods.
President Taz Slot expressed her gratitude to Club Corowa for their invaluable support.
“The additional equipment will assist the team to provide ongoing support to the community and improve safety for both squad members and recipients,” she said.
“Recent floods have prompted additional training in swift water rescue and specialist equipment.”
Ms Slot mentioned the invaluable role of portable battery lights provided by the club during a recent crash on Redlands Rd, highlighting the importance of well-equipped and well-supported emergency services in the community.
