Following reporting in the Cobram Courier, properties at Cedar Crt, Blackwood Cres and Campbell Rd have either been demolished or are in the process of being demolished and replaced, with works expected to finish by year’s end.
A Homes Victoria spokesperson said the agency expects the demolition of the fire-damaged properties at Blackwood Cres and Campbell Rd to be completed by early September and mid-October respectively.
“Both properties will be redeveloped under the Regional Housing Fund, with construction of four new homes expected to be completed within 18 months after the sites are cleared,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said no asbestos had been identified at the address on Campbell Rd.
“At the Blackwood Crescent site, low-risk asbestos cement sheet has been identified, and its removal will be managed under appropriate measures,” the spokesperson said.
It comes after local Debbie Johns raised alarm bells over the neglect of several homes that have been damaged by fire, citing safety concerns for nearby residents, especially children.
Debbie Johns first raised the alarm over the state of publicly-owned homes in Cobram that have become dumping grounds for waste.
