City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Geoff Akers encouraged residents to nominate outstanding local citizens who made a difference.
“Australia Day is an opportunity to come together, reflect on what makes our nation special and celebrate the people who contribute so much to our region,” Cr Akers said.
“Every town has local heroes whose efforts often go unnoticed.
“Nominating someone for the 2027 Australia Day Awards is a meaningful way to thank them for their contribution and celebrate the values of generosity, service and connection that Australia Day represents.”
The eight award categories are:
- Citizen of the Year
- Senior Citizen of the Year (aged 65 and over) (Not available in Murchison)
- Young Citizen of the Year (aged under 30)
- Community Event of the Year
- Sport Award
- Senior Sport Award (aged 65 and over)
- Junior Sport Award (aged under 18)
- Arts and Cultural Award (municipal level only)
Each category, excluding the Arts and Cultural Award, will have individual awards for Shepparton, Mooroopna, Tatura, Dookie and Murchison and their surrounding districts.
