The All Abilities sporting event has been delivered across regional Victoria for more than a decade and provides an important avenue for people with a disability to participate in sports that are rarely available to them.
Ten teams from Cobram, Yarrawonga, Echuca, Wangaratta, Seymour and Shepparton played a round robin format in both netball and football in two age groups, junior and seniors. Medals were awarded to each team’s ‘Best Team Player’.
Casey Petrie was awarded Best Team Player for Yarrawonga, despite being a resident of Cobram. Readers would recognise Casey for her many achievements in the swimming pool. While netball is a relatively new sport for the 41-year-old, in true competitive style she gave it her all.

The multi-sport precinct at the rear of the Shepparton Basketball stadium is an ideal location for a sporting carnival, catering for a wide range of different sports.
Trialled for the first time this year at the carnival was an AFL Nines format using smaller rectangular fields with nine players per team on the field at one time and 2-3 players on the bench.
While 18 netball courts are available, this significant increase augers well for the future as interest in the sport of netball continues to grow.
This year strong community involvement was obvious when 26 Goulburn Valley Grammar School students volunteered as umpires and assisted with running the day as part of their Year 9 curriculum and community volunteering program.
Goulburn Valley Sports Assembly/Valley Sport said it was extremely grateful to the students for their help and for the continuing support of long-time partners AFL Victoria, AFL Goulburn Murray, Netball Victoria, Shepparton Netball Association, GV Water, Mooroopna Lions and Greater Shepparton City Council.
