CareFlight's Infant Care Workshop, part of its Sick and Injured Kids in the Bush program, will be delivered across Victoria from October to December, with a session confirmed at NCN Health in Nathalia and Cobram on Thursday, November 27.
“Dealing with sick or critically injured children is challenging, especially in remote, rural and regional locations where access to specialists is limited,” acting head of education Tariq Sappideen said.
“That is why we are excited to be expanding our Sick and Injured Kids in the Bush program and Infant Care Workshops into Victoria, giving us the opportunity to reach more communities.”
The evidence-based workshops aim to equip healthcare professionals, including registered nurses, emergency nurses, paramedics and doctors, as well as new parents and carers, with essential life-saving skills.
Participants will learn about paediatric assessment, fluid management, intraosseous insertions, cardiac arrest procedures, neonatal resuscitation and paediatric trauma simulation.
“Providing participants with practical skills training and relevant scenario-based discussions to help improve their knowledge, skills and confidence is vital for increasing positive health outcomes for newborns and children,” Mr Sappideen said.
The workshops will be conducted by a team of experienced doctors, nurses and paramedics dedicated to building community capacity in paediatric emergency care.
