Car sinks into Murray

The Courier’s Karyn Spataro was finishing a day of boating with her family when she came upon the incident at 7.40pm.

“We were bringing the boat in and from where we were, both my husband and I saw something in the water,” she said.

Both Mrs Spataro and her husband were puzzled, with Mr Spataro wondering if it was a car in the water.

Upon nearing the boat ramp, the couple verified it was indeed a black BMW SUV that was partially submerged on the boat ramp.

According to Mrs Spataro, who asked onlookers what had occurred, the incident happened after an attempt to remove a Jet Ski from the river.

“They (the car driver) reversed the trailer in to get the Jet Ski, but before they could get the Jet Ski on to the trailer the car went back too far and the current at the boat ramp caused the vehicle to float,” she said.

There were no reports of injuries, and according to Mrs Spataro the driver got out through the sun roof of the car.

The vehicle has since been towed from the area.
