Following what council described as a comprehensive recruitment process attracting high-calibre candidates from across the region, Cameron Boardman was appointed at the council meeting on Tuesday, March 10.
Mayor Julia Cornwell McKean said the appointment marked an important step forward for the shire.
“Council is delighted to welcome Cameron Boardman as our new CEO,” she said.
“He brings extensive experience in local government leadership and is also a proven private sector leader at the executive level.
“We are confident that Cameron will provide strong direction and stability for our organisation and provide the leadership for our next phase of growth and development.”
Cameron was formerly a state government-appointed administrator and monitor for Casey City Council in Victoria, a member of the Victorian Parliament and a private sector chief executive.
Mr Boardman said he was looking forward to joining the organisation and engaging with the community.
“I am humbled to be appointed as Berrigan Shire’s next CEO and I compliment and thank the mayor and councillors for the manner in which they applied themselves through this extensive and exhaustive process,” he said.
“I am excited by the opportunity to represent the shire to ensure that we do everything we can to continue to make this very special part of Australia a thriving and vibrant community.”
Council said it thanked Mark Dupé for his leadership, dedication and steady guidance throughout the interim period since July 2025.
Cr Cornwell McKean, on behalf of all councillors, expressed heartfelt thanks for Mr Dupé’s contribution to both the organisation and the wider community during his time as interim chief executive.
“Our councillors are genuinely grateful for everything Mark has brought to our council and community during his tenure,” she said.
“His steady leadership has given us the confidence and space to undertake a thorough and considered process in selecting the right person for the permanent CEO role.
“We are also pleased that Mark will remain with council following Cameron’s commencement to ensure a comprehensive handover and a smooth, well-supported transition.”
