Celebrations started more than a week early, with Denilqiuin High School staff and students embracing the fun of the event designed to foster a love of literacy and reading.
Standout costume winners were Samara Munro, Chloe Dennison, Emma Paton, Kiara Clancy, Hanah Alpen and Luke Moorse, recognised for their creativity and enthusiasm as the school joined in the nationwide celebration.
The primary schools have followed suit, each hosting their own celebrations which continued after the Pastoral Times went to print.
Book Week 2026 runs from August 22 to 28 under the theme ‘Symphony of Stories’, with schools and libraries across Australia marking the occasion with costumes, parades and activities celebrating children’s literature.
Edward River Council has also joined the party again this year, and will be hosting a Book Week Fun Day at the Edward River Library in Deniliquin this Friday.
Starting at 2pm, The fun day will feature free family-friendly activities including scavenger hunts, crafts, games, pavement art and a free Rotary barbecue.
Costumes are encouraged.
A live radio broadcast will run from 2pm to 3pm, followed by recordings of selected poetry competition entries throughout the afternoon.
