The event will be held on Monday, November 3, from 6pm to 9.30pm at Benalla’s Ceramic Mural.
Diwali @ Mural has become one of the most anticipated cultural celebrations in the north-east, drawing thousands of locals and visitors to the lake precinct as part of the Benalla Festival.
The event transforms the area into a dazzling showcase of light, music and community spirit — featuring traditional rangoli art, handcrafted diya lamps, lively performances and vibrant projections of local children’s artwork.
This year’s celebration promises to be the biggest yet and will feature fireworks, art projections, a DJ, dance performances and a variety of food trucks.
There will also be plenty of free activities, including henna art, face painting, jumping castles and a 360-photo booth.
Guests will once again be treated to free Indian sweets as part of the festivities.
Supported by the Victorian Multicultural Commission, Diwali @ Mural celebrates the Festival of Lights — a symbol of joy, renewal and the triumph of light over darkness.
“This is an amazing event that our volunteers have worked hard to bring to life,” Benalla Migrants Association president Cr Puna Hewa Gunaratne said.
“It’s a celebration of our multicultural spirit and the strength of our community.
“We invite everyone to come along, enjoy the lights, food, and performances, and share in the happiness of Diwali.”
Cr Gunaratne also thanked the event sponsors — the Victorian Multicultural Commission, Regional Arts Victoria, Waratah Bridge Constructions and Crystal Cleaning — for their generous support.
“This event is part of the Benalla Festival, and I believe it adds a rich cultural flavour to this historic celebration, reflecting the long-standing South Asian culture in Benalla and across the region,” Cr Gunaratne said.
“I would like to thank all the volunteers who made the event possible.”
