This decision, made at an additional council meeting held on Wednesday, February 4, followed what council described as a rigorous tender process aimed at securing the best value and outcome for the community.
The appointment marks a significant milestone in revitalising one of regional Victoria's premier cultural assets, ensuring it remains a vibrant hub for locals and visitors alike.
Benalla Mayor Bernie Hearn said awarding the tender to a builder was a crucial moment for the project and the town.
“Midson Construction brings extensive experience to the project, and council is eager to see works commence," she said.
"We know how much the gallery means to Benalla Rural City residents, and getting Midson Construction on board means we are one step closer to giving the community the modern, accessible gallery it deserves."
The redevelopment aims to modernise the facility, improve accessibility and enhance the overall visitor experience while respecting the gallery’s architectural heritage.
Gallery programs will continue to operate at a temporary site during the build, ensuring that art and educational workshops remain accessible to schools and the public throughout the construction phase.
The Pop-up Benalla Art Gallery is located at 75 Bridge St East, Benalla.
