The new year has seen Barooga Primary School welcome 15 new prep students into the school community.

The 2024 cohort represents the largest enrollment in several years, and principal Matt Collins said it is evidence of the care and quality of education provided by the staff.

Before beginning the 2024 school year, the new students had an intensive 16-week transition program in 2023, which prepared them for school life.

The new students spent the first school days connecting with their Year 6 buddies.

Barooga Primary School has a buddy system that connects the youngest school students with year six buddies who will watch over them and help them get used to the school routine.

The buddy system allows the new students to have someone to talk to and helps prevent the younger students from being overwhelmed.

Mr Collins said he had welcomed all the new families to the school community and that everyone has been enjoying the small school atmosphere.

“The school is committed to fostering a strong sense of belonging between student staff and families,” he said.

“And we will ensure all new and existing students grow in a warm and supportive learning environment.”
