Aunty Faye Lynam honour

Reason to celebrate: Graham Briggs was a key figure in developing the partnership with Kyabram District Health Service which resulted in last week’s official opening of the Aldara Yenara Aboriginal Corporation’s Aunty Faye Community Hub.

Lead the way is a fitting English translation of the title of Kyabram-based Aboriginal corporation Aldara Yenara.

The words will now stand as a testament to the widely respected Elder who the new Kyabram community hub is named after — Aunty Faye Lynam, who is considered a pioneer in developing strategies for justice, community services and family violence.

The Aldara Yanara Aboriginal Corporation (AYAC) Aunty Faye Community Hub was officially opened on Monday morning, its launch delayed as a sign of respect for the community leader who died on May 12.

Aunty Faye (nee Cooper) died at 72 years of age and the Moirathaben Elder was honoured when her family was recongised at the opening cermony of the Waramunda Drive hub, which was a former administration building for Kyabram District Health Service.

Monday’s opening fell fittingly at the start of the week-long NAIDOC Week celebrations.
