The Cobram - Barooga Apex Club has welcomed its new leadership team, as the club embarks on a new chapter of building a stronger community.

At a formal dinner on Saturday, June 28 at the Grand Central Hotel, Apexians past and present congregated to mark the occasion which saw David Kelly (president), Damien Guthrie (treasurer) and Liam Gilmour (secretary) officially handed their roles on the club’s executive.

They replaced Matt Triffitt (president), Nabeel Ahmed (secretary) and Luke Miller (treasurer).

In his address, outgoing president Matt Triffitt thanked the audience for being part of the occasion.

“It’s been an honour to steer the ship, alongside my fellow Apexians,” he said.

Mr Triffitt said with the new executive in-place he expects the club to prosper for another 12 months, with work and memories that will last a lifetime and help cement the Apex footprint in the community

“It is great to see fresh young faces becoming a part of this organisation and people striving to keep on the lookout for new members to keep Cobram - Barooga Apex strong, and a viable asset to the community,” he said.

The special occasion was an opportunity for members to reflect on the club’s numerous community endeavours over the past year.

Among other initiatives, the club has supported two students to attend the London International Youth Science Forum, helped the Strathmerton Lions Club run the annual Strathmerton Fishing Competition and brought the famous Lawn Mower Races back to Cobram.

Damien Guthrie and Jack Foley also travelled to visit service clubs in South Africa and Wales, as part of the club’s international three-way link program.

Adrian Salter was presented with a plaque to commemorate his 15 years with the club.

The event was graced by the presence of Apex Australia national president Ben Curnow, of the Beaufort Apex Club, who congratulated the incoming executive on their nominations and wished them well.

Cobram - Barooga RSL sub-branch president John Hanlon was guest speaker, and gave an engaging speech on the sub-branch’s history and the community services it provides.

Representatives from the Rotary Club of Cobram were also present.
