Their homes and countries might be thousands of kilometres apart, but wildlife rescuer Kylee Donkers and author Claudia Clark share a common purpose.

Recently, Claudia visited Blue Bird Cobram Kindergarten for a Foster a Native session with Kylee, a co-ordinator at Dutch Thunder Wildlife Shelter, Koonoomoo, to give a reading of her latest children’s book.
Claudia is an author of wildlife and children’s books and lives in Germany.
Originally from the United States, Claudia first met Kylee last September while researching native Australian fauna for her next book.
Although the international wildlife rescue community is small, the pair agreed it was “pure dumb luck” that brought them together.
They first connected after Claudia sent out questions to several wildlife shelters, including Dutch Thunder.
“I could tell by the questions Claudia was asking that she truly wanted to understand how the wildlife industry works,” Kylee said.
The result of Claudia’s thorough research is her latest work, Hannah’s Call to Care, which gets the tick of approval from Kylee.
“I think this children’s book is brilliant,” she said.
“It is exactly the information that I’m trying to get across to kids.”
Hannah’s Call to Care follows the adventures of a young girl from the Blue Mountains who learns the importance of caring for Australia’s unique native wildlife.
Since meeting last September, Kylee and Claudia have become good friends through their shared passion for wildlife.

Within Victorian wildlife carer circles, Kylee is respected as the ‘Koala Queen of the North’, thanks to her extensive work with koalas in northern Victoria.
Like most wildlife shelters, Dutch Thunder Wildlife is entirely self-funded and does not receive financial support from any governments.
In a nod to their importance to Claudia, a portion of the funds raised from book sales will go back to wildlife shelters in Australia.
Hannah’s Call to Care can be purchased in paperback or eBook through Booktopia, Fishpond and Amazon.
