The diverse audience, which included RAAF cadets, local school students and representatives from four RSL sub-branches, heard from Air Marshal Davies about the rapidly evolving nature of the Australian Defence Force and, more specifically, the RAAF.
Air Mashal Davies said it was vital the defence form remained at the bleeding edge of innovations and hoped his story would inspire the next generation to achieve remarkable goals.
‘‘The RAAF is an exciting place to spend a part of your career,’’ he said.
‘‘There were a number of cadets and high school folk here to make that message very valuable.
‘‘I was trying to give a very honest and clear picture of where the RAAF is today and where it is going in the future.’’
Air Marshal Davies grew up in Strathmerton, attending Cobram Secondary College (then known as Cobram High School).
He started flying in Tocumwal, riding a bike 30km each way to do so.
‘‘The fact he is from the area was a big draw card,’’ Cobram-Barooga RSL Sub-Branch president Rob Brown said.
‘‘It was an excellent evening and it was fantastic to bring his story to the attention of the younger generation.
‘‘Air Marshal Davies wants the best of the best to join the ADF and he wants everybody to know any trade or skill can be applied to the RAAF.’’
