Who would have thought a cactus could be so bright?

Take a stroll through the immense cactus farm at Strathmerton’s Cactus Country, and you'd be forgiven for thinking you were in Mexico, or the Argentine Patagonia.

The October to November period means most varieties of cactus are in flower, with many boasting bright colours and fascinatingly intricate blooms all over the plants.

The garden boasts thousands of cacti and too many varieties to count across its 12-hectare site, which is continually expanding and growing and helped by the dry environment the local landscape offers.

Cactus Country chief executive John Hall, son of founder Jim Hall, said the garden was best to see and enjoy the surroundings of at this time of year.

"Flowering season is the best time to see the cacti and their flowers... we're also going to be open late through the summer so people can have a drink or a cocktail and wander through the garden," he said.

"We're pretty excited to create a venue for the future that people are looking forward to visiting."
