The Victorian Coalition has promised a daily cap of $2 for local transport should it win the election in November.
The $2 flat fare will apply to travel on non-V/Line regional city and town services, as well as the Melbourne train, tram and bus network.
However, on Tuesday the Opposition proposed halving the price of V/Line fares.
Victorian Opposition leader Matthew Guy said people using bus services in and around regional towns would save 72 per cent.
Locally, it means people can get around Shepparton and Mooroopna for $2 a day for daily travel and $1 for daily concession ticket travel.
“We know many in our community depend on public transport on a regular basis,” Nationals candidate for Shepparton Kim O’Keeffe said.
“This is a way we can ease some of that cost burden to people in the Goulburn Valley.”
