A police officer has been convicted of assaulting his newborn.

Nickolas Wayne Peake, 30, was stood down from the WA Police Force after being charged with attacking his five-week-old baby on Saturday.
The child was taken to Perth Children's Hospital as a precaution.
Peake faced Midland Magistrates Court in suburban Perth on Thursday, where he was convicted of aggravated assault.
Child Abuse Squad detectives charged the officer on Sunday, with WA Police confirming on Thursday he had been stood down from duty.
