The remains are yet to be formally identified but Queensland Police investigators believe they are those of Jana Armstrong.
Ms Armstrong was reported missing from a suburb in Toowoomba, south of Brisbane, after she was last seen on Tuesday.
Officers released footage of Ms Armstrong last seen wearing a green-and-white striped Country Road shirt, jeans and thongs with her white Hyundai car located about 500m from her home.Â
A crime scene was declared at 11.20pm on Saturday after the remains were located in bushland off Esk Hampton Road.
Investigators are in contact with Ms Armstrong's family as forensic examinations continue.
Detectives later arrested a 48-year-old man at his Toowoomba home, and he was charged with one count of murder (domestic violence offence).
He is due to appear in court on Monday.
Police are appealing to the public for any relevant information, CCTV or dashcam footage to aid in their investigations.
They have pinpointed locations between Toowoomba and Esk from 10.30pm on July 7, after she was reported missing, to 1.30am on July 8.
Police will address the media later on Sunday.
