The sessions are part of the Federal Government's Be Connected program.
Cobram Community House community IT officer Liz Diamond said the program was a great introduction to computers for people who needed assistance.“It starts with ‘what is a computer?’, and then goes into all sorts of things, such as how to use email or Windows 10,” she said.
“Anyone can use the resources in this program but it's mainly for over 50s — we generally have retired or unemployed people getting involved.
“People are happy with it because we can help fix the little things like turning on wi-fi or changing data settings.
“We recently received five laptops that we rent out, which helps people who don't own a computer to learn at their own pace.”
Ms Diamond said she would like to see the amount of people getting involved increase. The digital literacy sessions are currently held over online meeting platform Zoom as a result of coronavirus restrictions, but will return to face-to-face meetings when permitted by Federal Government health directions. The sessions are running on Wednesdays at 1 pm and Thursdays at 2 pm and are expected to run until June 2021.
