The $2.5 million state-of-the-art project funded by capital grants and the Victorian Government's Rural Health Infrastructure fund started in March and includes 14 single rooms with ensuites at Irvin House and a new kitchen for the health campus.
NCN Health infrastructure and maintenance manger Tommy Kightly said the COVID-19 crisis had not yet affected the build.
“COVID-19 times hasn’t made things easy, but we have pushed through and we are masking up and doing all the right things,” he said.
“We are still well and truly on track and we are talking about a handover in early December.”
Benalla-based building company Landmark Constructions is heading the build with local contractors contributing to the project.
“From painters, plasterers and brick layers, there is a lot of local contractors being employed which is fantastic for the community,” Mr Kightly said.
“Half of the build is brand new and the rest is a refurbishment as we work our way through.”
NCN Health corporate services director Justin Sullivan said the new aged care rooms would enhance independence, privacy and safety for residents and provide the latest facilities in an attractive setting.
“The kitchen upgrade will enhance food preparation, systems and flow for the benefit of residents, patients and users of the whole hospital,” he said.
“A new staff dining room will also create a bright shared space for use by the whole campus.”
Residents and staff were involved in workshops with the architect during the design phase to ensure the building works and interior design met their needs.
“Samples of all the interiors, including flooring, wall vinyls and bench timber finishes were provided to Irvin House for input from the staff and residents,” Mr Sullivan said.
More stages of the project are expected in the future.
