The company journeyed from Mt Waverley via Cobram to Deniliquin carrying a mammoth bright blue Fight MND beanie on the back of its truck last Tuesday.
The larger-than-life beanie is part of AFL legend Neil Daniher’s fundraising campaign to find a cure for motor neurone disease.
Having already raised $25 000 and sold 1000 beanies, Deniliquin Coles was the store chosen to host Australia's biggest beanie.
Hicks Transport Group general manager and beanie delivery driver Warren Hicks was honoured to be a part of the journey after losing his mother to the deadly disease in 2002.
“My family has been a part of the Daniher fundraising campaign in some way since it began six years ago,” Mr Hicks said.
“Getting it on the truck was actually a bit of a challenge.
“It is so big we had to really think about how we were going to get it on the truck and ended up having to take gates off and lie it down,” he said with a laugh.
Coles stores across Australia, including Shepparton, are selling the beanies for $20 with all profits going directly to world leading MND research in Australia and overseas.
Mr Hicks also co-organises the Cobram-Barooga MND Golf Day and wanted the community to know it would be going ahead this year.
“Golf courses are back open so we will definitely continue that tradition,” Mr Hicks said.
“However, because the event brings hundreds of people together, we are waiting to see if we will be able to continue the much loved post auctions and presentations.
“But we are currently working things out to make sure it will be another great event,” he said.
All costs associated with the transportation of the beanie were taken on by Hicks Transport Group.
