Mrs Hollands brought the raffle ticket as a Father’s Day present for her son David. The raffle, which was supported by Bendigo Bank Cobram, raised $1152 for the annual event, organised by Cobram Community House.
‘‘Doug McCarthy started the initiative in his home in the 1990s,’’ Community House’s Liz Diamond said.
‘‘It got too big for his place, so he approached Cobram Community House who thought it was a good idea and took it up.
‘‘It became too big for there, so it moved to Cobram Bowling Club. ‘‘At its peak, there were around 120 people who attended and it has been around 70 to 80 in recent years.
‘‘It is all run by volunteers and it is for people who would otherwise be alone on Christmas Day.’’
