The day was organised to raise money for the Magill family after Rod, father of Julie-Anne and Christine, lost his leg in a work-related accident, which has kept him in hospital since early June.
The event started at the Bottom Pub, where Christine works, at 1pm and continued well into the afternoon with plenty of entertainment on offer, including a dunk tank, jumping castle and face painting, while local singer and guitarist Darrell Brett played a number of old time hits.
There were also a number of items auctioned and raffled off including a snowboard and signed Essendon and Richmond jumpers.
Ms Magill said it was an incredible day and said the support she and her sister had received in recent weeks had helped them and also lifted the spirits of their Dad.
‘‘We are lost for words, I called Dad earlier and we are all just lost for words,’’ she said.
‘‘The amount of support from the people who have come out is literally amazing, we don’t honestly care about the money raised, this support from both young and old has left us speechless.
‘‘It’s a real mixture of emotions from all of us, dad included, he can’t believe it either.
‘‘We want to say a big thank you to everyone who came out, people are still showing up and it’s 5.30pm.
‘‘The fact people took their Sunday out of their week to show their support is incredible, we really appreciate having the community backing us in this time of need.’’
Bottom Pub manager Trudi Haswell was one of the organisers and was heartened by how the town had rallied around the local family.
‘‘It’s been a really good day,’’ she said.
‘‘The community has really supported the family and we have had a lot of fun with the dunk tanks and the raffles and lots of people got away with some goodies.
‘‘Everybody has been very supportive which is really good.
‘‘There are lot of businesses we need to thank for their donations which have helped make this possible.’’
