The Australian batter has ensured that was a decision to regret as she smashed a 40-ball 85 against her former team for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
That enabled her new employers to follow up their opening day victory over defending champions Mumbai Indians with a thumping nine-wicket win, overhauling UP's inadequate 5-143 with 47 balls to spare in Navi Mumbai.
Having warmed up with 25 off 12 balls against Mumbai Harris now has 110 runs off 52 balls in the competition.
"I'm really happy some of the work I have been doing with my batting is paying off," said a beaming Harris. "It feels pretty good."
With Georgia Voll also in the squad Harris, who bats in the middle-order for Australia, said she had not expected to open even though she has often done so in franchise cricket.
But her captain and opening partner Smriti Mandhana said: "We're very clear how dangerous she can be up front. If she gets going she takes the game away from the opposition.
"All I need to do is take a single and she keeps going, she's amazing to watch."
Harris hit 10 fours and five sixes and UP captain Meg Lanning admitted, "It's pretty difficult to stop Grace once she gets going, she hits to different areas. She has brute force but also plays good shots."
RCB sent UP in to bat after Lanning called wrongly at the toss and English seamer Lauren Bell set the tone, opening up with a tight three overs in which she dismissed Harleen Deol.
That brought Lanning and Litchfield together, both new recruits for Warriorz this season having previously been at Delhi and Gujarat respectively.
Their 46-ball 70-run partnership almost set up victory in the opening match but this time they put on 18 in 17 balls.
Lanning was granted a life on 10 when Arundhati Reddy just failed to get her hands under a round-the corner pull off Shreyanka Patil. Initially given out the decision was reversed after video replays.
But the former Australia skipper did not take advantage. Having faced eight more balls, adding four runs, she lofted the same bowler into the leg side and was well caught by Radha Yadav.
Litchfield, who made a superb 40-ball 78 in UP's opener, seemed unperturbed and raced to 20 off ten balls with a six and three fours. But she then smacked Shreyanka into the hands of mid-off.
Next ball Kiran Navgire slogged Nadine de Klerk's to the cow corner boundary and when Shweta Sehrawat slashed to Reddy at backward point UP had lost three in three and were 5-50.
Deandra Dottin (40no off 37) and Deepti Sharma (45no off 35) took UP to respectability with an unbroken 93-run partnership, and when they took 15 off the final over Lanning may have thought the target could be defended.
Harris soon dispelled any such notion. The first and fourth balls went to the boundary and Harris was up and running. By the end of the five-over power play RCB were 0-78 with Harris 55 off 24 balls.
The Queenslander had scored 30 off the fifth over which went 4 (no ball), 6, 4, 6, 6, wide, 4, 0. With the sundries bowler Dottin matched the WPL record 32 runs conceded by Sneh Rana a day earlier when thrashed by New Zealand's Sophie Devine.
Harris was given strong support by Mandhana who made 47 not out off 32 balls as they put on 137 for the first wicket.
"Of course it's not the start we wanted," added Lanning. "We never got going with the bat, too many dot balls up front, myself included.
"We were outplayed tonight. Plenty to work on for us but the games come thick and fast and we'll move on pretty quick.".
