The A-grade side was taken by surprise against a strong, young team but the Tigers are not licking their wounds for too long, instead looking forward to a rematch with Barooga.
Coach Kate Bird said it was still early days and was anticipating some big things from the girls when they hit their stride.
‘‘The girls are disappointed from last weekend, Finley is a very strong young side and we’ve taken away a couple of lessons to come up against Barooga this weekend,’’ she said.
Best on went to Meg Denson in goal keeper and Georgia Kerr was rewarded for her work in goals and some injuries mean the Tigers have gone hunting through the ranks for some talent.
Lil Murphy is off with a thumb injury and Mel Kelly came undone at training and Claire Baxter has stepped up.
‘‘She was up last week and she will be playing with us this week — she’s been outstanding,’’ Bird said.
Bird said the result should be different once the girls have some experience behind them.
‘‘Finley double-teamed Lilieth and we just weren’t able to adjust quick enough,’’ she said.
‘‘It was a really good game and once the girls really jell, with some games under their belts we’ll be able to put together a good second half.’’
This weekend Bird said the girls will be giving it their all for the cross-river rivalry.
‘‘Barooga outplayed us last year and so it will be good to square up again,’’ she said.
