Country week cricket has come and gone and this year players convened in Cobram to compete, where Goulburn Murray Cricket proved dominant across the board.
Across the three competing age groups — Under-17, Under-15 and Under-13 — the GMC competed in a combined 14 matches.
Of those 14, 12 were wins in a powerhouse performance.
The Under-17 side, featuring Angus Martin, Charlie Ryan and Sam Coughlin, started with a 38-run win against Shepparton at Windridge Oval.
Anthony DePasquale with 39 and Angus Martin with 44 led the way with the bat, guiding their team to 8-137 in their 20 overs, before Rylea Jones took three wickets to polish off the Shepparton team.
The only thing better than beating Shepparton was doing it twice in one day, with GMC demolishing Shepp by 80 runs in the second contest later in the day.
On the road to the Murray Valley Cricket Association in Cobram on day two, GMC started the day with a strong six-wicket win in their opening contest.
They would follow this up in the afternoon with a seven-wicket win, chasing down Murray Valley’s 113 with three overs to spare.
The final day started slowly with the bat, with GMC only scoring 8/86 in their clash with Bendigo.
But a tight bowling performance from the team kept the game in their hands, with Bendigo managing just 7/76 from their 20 overs to extend GMC’s streak to five games.
An unbeaten 51 from Will Devlin guided GMC to 6-111 in their final match, and the bowlers again dominated in dismissing Bendigo for 84 to end the week for the GMC with a perfect six for six, and gaining them the country week title.
The Under-15s, led by captain Waugh George and including Sam Ryan and Kobyn James, joined in on the fun by beating Shepparton to kick off their campaign.
Batting first in their opening game, GMC made a solid total of 103 from 39 overs, before Bohden Learmonth took three wickets in leading the bowling attack to dismiss Shepp for 99.
The team would beat Murray Valley and Bendigo in the next two days to set up a grand final with Bendigo.
Batting first and going the distance for their 45 overs, GMC scored 9-160 to finish its innings in the driver’s seat.
Errol Burns was the dominant force in the bowling attack, taking four wickets as Bendigo were dismissed for 108, giving the GMC its second premiership of the week in a 52-run win.
Two of the first three games for the Under-13s, which included Nate Rasmussen and Jude Ryan, matched their older counterparts.
Wins against Murray Valley and Bendigo had the team cruising into the grand final.
This time, Shepparton got the better of the GMC.
All out for 106 in 35 overs, Shepparton’s score was catchable.
Unfortunately, GMC were unable to take their opportunities, all out for 66 in a 40-run loss.
