Highway patrol
Cobram Highway Patrol is reminding drivers to take care with the Labour Day long weekend approaching.
Road trauma affects everyone and, currently, the road toll is substantially higher than for the same time last year.
As a result, across the Labour Day long weekend local highway patrol members are rostering on extra staff.
Highway patrol members will be working two shifts a day on each day of the long weekend, targeting offences of fatigue, impaired driving, speeding, seat belts, mobile phones and driver distractions, which are well known for increasing the severity and intensity of road trauma.
Cobram Highway Patrol’s aim is to make sure this is a fatality-free weekend.
Police advise drivers to plan ahead, allow extra time to travel, get plenty of rest and, if you are not sure whether you can drive, make alternative arrangements.
