And the most satisfying win in his trifecta no doubt was reining home pacer Interest Me for his popular Shepparton trainer father, Steve, in the Jim Skehan Memorial Three-Year-Old Pace.
A three-year-old Mach Three filly, Interest Me was making his racetrack debut and led from pillar to post to beat the Junee trained pacer Pearls For Tash, which also had to be content with a second at the Albury Cup meeting last Saturday night.
Ryan Duffy’s other two winners were on the Glenn Douglas trained Flight Officer and Wotchawaitingfor.
Flight Officer prevailed courtesy of a well-judged Duffy drive in the Jim Cox Memorial for C2-3 class pacers.
Wotchawaitingfor scored a well-deserved win in the Pioneer Volunteers Pace after four second placings at his previous four starts.
Northern Victorian trainers had a good day at the meeting with five winners on the eight-race card.
Echuca trainer Fay McEwan and Avenel horsemen Wayne Potter and David Aiken joined Shepparton’s Steve Duffy and dual state trainer Amanda Turnbull with winners.
McEwan produced in-form trotter Majestic Time for his third successive win in taking the Bill Farrell Memorial Trotters Handicap while the Aiken trained and Kima Frenning driven Shelby Bromac hoisted his fifth successive win on Australian tracks since crossing the Tasman when prevailing in the Tom Stillard Memorial Pace for C4-6 class pacers.
Wayne Potter enjoyed his win with the Ellen Tormey driven Roll Along Styx in the Pat Brooks Memorial Pace. The four-year-old Rocknroll Hanover gelding was overdue for a win after some good recent efforts.
The program had to put back a race after a track incident when the water truck was backing up and accidentally spilled enough water to create a stretch of unsafe track, which needed some attention but it didn’t have any effect on racing when the program resumed.
