It was a festival of bowls at Cobram Bowling Club last Saturday, as the club hosted the preliminary finals in all five divisions of Murray Playing Area Weekend Pennant.

The club was as bright as the weather, with marquees, ample seating, outdoor bars, and a continuous barbecue operation, all for the comfort of the players and the numerous spectators supporting the nine clubs that were involved.
In Division 1, Katandra West played Wunghnu.
Katandra West had the wood on Wunghnu in the home and away series, and despite it being a close game, Katandra showed why they had been on top of the ladder for most of the season. Katandra West 65 beat Wunghnu 57.
Katandra West will now play Numurkah Golf in the grand final next week.
In Division 2 it was Barooga and Finley that did battle.
In what was supposed to be a tight contest, Finley had a powerful win.
Barooga may have been unsettled by forced and unforced selection changes and had no answer to Finley.
Finley will now face Strathmerton next week to challenge for a place in the first division next season.
The Division 3 preliminary final was a blowout from the beginning. Jerilderie seemed to lack the firepower on this occasion in their outing against Nathalia. Nathalia 86-Jerilderie 35.
The final scores showed why Nathalia will give a good account of themselves in their grand final against the all-powerful Numurkah Golf, next week.
The Division 4 preliminary final between Numurkah and Cobram was a closer contest.
Numurkah was in front for most of the day, but Cobram kept within striking distance, even levelling the scores late in the game.
However, both Cobram rinks dropped a big number of shots late in the game, which proved costly.
Numurkah 42-Cobram 34.
Numurkah will now go to play a strong Katandra West combination in next week’s grand final.
The Division 5 preliminary final was the closest game for the day. Cobram was probably the slight favourite going into the match against Picola.
But it was Picola that were in front of the main board for the majority of the fixture.
On the last end, Cobram required two shots to tie the match.
Cobram skipper Allan Temple drew one of those two shots, but could not claim the second shot required.
Picola 35-Cobram 34.
Picola will now front up against Numurkah in the Division 5 grand final.
All grand finals will be held at Berrigan next Saturday in what should be a spectacular day of bowls.
In Murray Bowls Midweek Pennant, it was grand final day, with both Divisions 1 and 2 playing at Finley Bowls Club.
In Division 1, Cobram took on Numurkah Golf.
A close contest was expected as their last two encounters had gone down the wire.
In Division 2, it was Katandra West up against Numurkah in what is expected to be a gruelling contest.
Congratulations to Cobram’s Kerry Baldacchino, who was victorious in the Goulburn Murray Bowls Region Women’s State Single Championship.
To get to this game, both players had to win their respect by playing area titles.
Kerry had two knock-out rounds before winning through to the quarter and semi-finals and then winning the Murray title. Kerry played Kate Bush from Shepparton Park.
Scores: Kerry Baldacchino 25 to Kate Bush 20.
Kerry will now go on and represent the Goulburn Murray at the state titles.
