Members have emerged from what seems to be lockdown number 15 on somewhat shaky ground but look forward to compacting the annual events calendar into what is left of the year in the proven environmentally safe facility.
The first event on Monday, September 20 was a Diggers Tribute in which Darren Thompson proved the value of owning your own snooker table through an extended period of lockdown when he took out Dan Young on the final table.
Due to the high numbers of returning players both Darren and Dan had to work their way through a number of qualifying rounds, which was an enjoyable occasion for all who have been missing their snooker fix.
Hans Lang won the social night competition on Wednesday, September 22 when he defeated Jason Bassett in the final. Hans has bounced back well from recent health issues and looks like he will be his usual force for the remainder of the season.
Monday, September 27 was a club challenge event and Dan Young continued his previous week’s good form when he emerged victorious over Deb’ Harbrow.
Dan, along with Club President Darren Thompson, is also a table owner so it seems apparent that anyone wishing to maintain their form over any future lockdowns may need to consider a similar purchase.
Deb topped off a great night with news that her family has recently added a brand-new granddaughter so heartiest congratulations also go her way.
The social night on September 29 saw Darren Edwards take out the chocolates when he rolled Russell Styles in the final. Both Darren and Russell won some tight matches on their way to the final so congratulations to both players.
As people can see on the ClubMulwala website and in its members newsletter, the club welcome new members or anyone who may like to give snooker a try.
There are a variety of events held every Monday and Wednesday evening and there are plenty of opportunities for new players to join or come along to try the facilities out. The club have 2 excellently maintained full size tables available for competition, practice and visitor use, and a regularly updated handicapping system to ensure players from beginners to advanced level can compete equally.
There are also plenty of experienced and skilled players who can help with advice and tips on how to improve your game or perhaps adapt it for those who have played pub or social pool in the past.
