Mulwala Community Christmas Day lunch at the Mulwala Football Netball Club and Tunzafun Park Upgrade are two of the three nominations for Community Project of the Year.
The Community Event of the Year has four nominations, including the Mulwala Football Netball Club-conducted Cod Classic.
Liz Seeliger of Mulwala will contest the Local Achiever Award against four residents from Howlong, and one resident each from Lowesdale and Corowa.
Liz is also in the running for Federation Council’s Citizen of the Year. Will she join her husband Peter Seeliger as council’s top citizen? Peter was the inaugural Federation Council Citizen of the Year, at the 2018 Australia day celebrations.
Mulwala and district residents are encouraged to attend this year’s 2020 Australia Day ceremony at the Howlong Memorial Park, which will get underway at 9.00am.
Mulwala’s nominations are most deserving. A nomination is an achievement in itself. Those persons representing the organisations concerned would appreciate the presence in Howlong of as many Mulwala and district people as possible.
“I urge as many Mulwala people as possible to go along to the ceremony in Howlong,” Mulwala Progress Association President Robert Purtle OAM said.
“There’s a lot on the program, with awards, the Australia Day Ambassador address and mates from other areas of Federation Council coming together.”
Entrepreneur, commentator and community advocate Andrew Heslop will be Federation Council’s 2020 Australia Day Ambassador this Sunday.
Andrew is an award winning keynote speaker and community leader with a global reputation as a social entrepreneur for founding Australia’s annual celebration of community, Neighbour Day. Neighbour Day actively builds social capital, promotes social cohesion, integration and positive relationships between neighbours of all ages and from all cultural backgrounds, all year round.
Federation Council Mayor Pat Bourke said that council is looking forward to welcoming Andrew to our region and introducing him to our community.
“Andrew is a member of the Qantas Frequent Flyer Advisory Community, an Australian Ambassador for Jamie Oliver’s global Food Revolution Day and an Ambassador for the Garage Sale Trail,” the mayor said.
“He has formerly held the Australian Government roles of Champion for the National Broadband Network, Champion for the National Compact and as an Outreach Partner with the Office for the Not–for–Profit Sector in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
“Australia Day is an opportunity for our community to come together in the spirit of friendship and harmony, showcasing the unique and diverse culture that makes us Australian.”
Food and drinks will be available for purchase. A breakfast BBQ will be provided by the Howlong Pony Club and a Coffee Van will be available on the day from 8:30am. Musical entertainment will be provided by Barry Bird and Coleen Bell.
