The Hoppers have been slow starters this season and that trend continued against the Berrigan Saints.
25 points down though would be the widest margin of the day as a determined and committed Rennie effort outscored their opponents 9 goals to 6 for the balance of the game to lose by 14 points.
In front of a raucous group of 2017/18 flag winners the Hoppers took it up to their more fancied opponent with the score being a reflection of the closeness of the contest.
They were led ably by a fired-up Jack Welsh who was committed at every centre contest and aerial challenge.
The Kennedy brothers, Ben and Jack looked like they were waxing in the backyard at times and Ben Coghill’s aerial skills are becoming a potent force with 3 goals the result.
But the game highlight came during the third term when 3-time premiership player Chase Strawhorn kicked his 600th major for the Hoppers in game number 128 at an average of 4.69 goals per game.
A super effort from a superstar footballer and person.
Comfortably the best effort from the Hoppers this season.
Award winners: Best on Ground Jack Welsh and Harry Haley, Middy’s Yarrawonga incentives - Jack Kennedy, Ben Kennedy, Ben Coghill and Harry Hogan.
Reserves
Rennie 2.3.15 defeated by Berrigan 12.6.78.
The Magoo’s are struggling to find form and coach Nish is getting frustrated. They play in fits and spurts but are allowing their opponent too much space across the ground and getting punished for it.
If not for the run and carry of Will Taylor, newcomer Hayden Long providing a target or Luke Phillips holding strong all day the margin may have pushed further than the final 65-point difference.
Best: Zakarij Garner, Will Taylor, Khomsan Vatiroyram, Luke Phillips, Oliver Cope, George Mcburnie.
Awards: Cellarbrations - Will Taylor, ClubMulwala - Hayden Long, Yarrawonga Hotel - George McBurnie, Lake Mulwala Bakery - Zac Garner and BiRite Electrical - Luke Phillips.

The rain seemed to deter the Hoppers from wanting to have a decent crack and the result reflected this, losing comfortably.
Aiden Lawless kicked Rennie’s only goal as they found an opponent that was more focussed and willing to bring a teammate into the game.
Plaudits to Briffa and Burrows who tried hard all day, but the coaches look forward to an improved effort next week.

A little rain certainly wasn’t going to stop the Hopper boys coming out strong. After friendly bus banter all week between the two clubs the boys were keen to put the boots on and show Berrigan what the Hoppers were made of.
The game was fast paced and the midfielders were running the ball well through the centre, the forward line were on and goals were getting pumped through the post.
The backline stood tall shutting down many goal opportunities for the opposition. It was a great game and both clubs enjoyed themselves.
Awards: Biggers Floorworld- Nick Robinson, RedAg- Judd Long, Eternal Paws- Ed Withers and Border Concrete Plumbing- Todd Lawless.
So it’s off to Blighty to take on the redeyes next week then it will be great to see everyone in their finest as ClubMulwala hosts the 2022 Rennie Ball.
