“We’re happy with our recruitment,” recruitment director Leigh Ramsdale said. “We’ll be better off but the O and M as a whole has done the same.”
All the league teams have recruited strongly for season 2022. “We haven’t just picked up some quality players, we’ve recruited quality persons,” Ramsdale said.
“There will be just two players travelling up each week to play in Lachie Howe and Michael Gibbons, and hopefully that will change in 12 to 18 months when there’s no travel involved – that would be a feather in our cap.”
The recruitment director said despite the lack of football matches due to Covid-19 in the past two seasons, it has given coach Mark Whiley more time to settle into the role.
“Pre-season has been good and we’re really looking forward to the season,” Whiley said.
Pigeons’ premiership coach Chris Kennedy is working with the club’s footballers on an ever-increasing area of the club being player welfare. “Board member Erin Rees has instigated an increased focus on the mental health and the well-being of all participants of the club. The board is delighted to have Chris involved,” Yarrawonga Football Netball Club President Ross Mulquiney said.
“It is a good start to season 2022 and I want to wish all our footballers and netballers all the very best for the season. The season has been a long time coming and I hope for both players and spectators 2022 brings you much joy coming down to the JC Lowe Oval and elsewhere.”
The president also mentioned the support of the club’s key partners. “Club Mulwala and Kennedy Builders are unique partners and without their support, well, without their support the club would be a very different entity,” Mr Mulquiney said.
“Further to our major sponsors Belmores, Blum, STF Engineering, Yarrawonga Hotel, Yarrawonga Holiday Park and Yield Finance, I say a huge thanks, we cannot function without your support and your dedication to grass roots community sport is beyond reproach.”
