An undermanned Bats side was up against it in their trip to an in-form Greta, but rose to the occasion to lead at every change on Saturday.
Goorambat’s backline of Perry Knox, Ben Reaburn and Sam Gladstone all put in solid displays to keep Greta to six goals.
Greta found it in them in the final term to draw level, the scoreboard staying that way for the remainder to see the two sides share points.
Goorambat’s reserves outfit was on the wrong end of a 16.14 (110) to 1.2 (8) drubbing against second-placed Greta.
Benalla All Blacks picked up where they left off in round four, putting in another complete performance at Friendlies Oval to see them obliterate Whorouly 24.25 (169) to 5.6 (26).
A six-goal-to-one first term put the Panthers firmly in the driver’s seat from first bounce, the home side refusing to take the foot off the pedal from there.
Riley Moran had another day out in the midfield to earn best-on, backed up by the performances of Alistair Jacka and Kyle Collisson.
Cody Crawford was lethal in front of the big sticks, kicking six, while Chris O’Connor and Lachlan Thompson both kicked five.
The Panthers reserves also had a day out against Whorouly with a whopping 22.19 (151) to 4.3 (27) win which sees them slide into third.
In netball action, All Blacks remain unbeaten after another dominant display, getting up over Whorouly by 17 goals in round five.
Liz Fuhrmeister had a great game in both defence and midcourt, while Samantha Bochtler stepped up for a fine performance in goals.
Scores were tighter in B-grade; the Panthers coming away with a slim five-goal victory.
Elyse Felstead worked hard in both defence and then in goals after half-time, helping to cut down a six-goal margin for her side.
Goorambat’s A-grade netballers suffered their first loss of the season, going down to an unbeaten Greta side 46-23.
Ella Sheehan and Ally Ellis fought hard to keep the Bats in the game, while shooters Chelsea Beavis and Kylie Relph worked tirelessly in attack.
The Bats’ B-grade side produced a scintillating performance in its Whorouly match-up, winning by just three goals after being 10 down at quarter time.
A match which is sure to be top billing is set for round five this weekend, when Goorambat and All Blacks meet at Goorambat Recreation Reserve.
