YMGCR Mens Nine Holers
Tuesday saw a magnificent turnout of 79 players for the much sought-after Pot Round and it was local jeweller Dominic "the Diamond" Fotia who continued his winning form and will incur the wrath of the handicapper with an excellent 27 strokes on the Blue.
Chasing him all the way was evergreen Ronnie Dawson (29) who continues his good form, with Kerry Pendergast (30), Ted Latta (31) and Ray Scott (32) all following close behind, with Normie Prior (33) doing well after taking time off to play at Tamworth Country festival the week before.
On the Red it was Peter Taylor (33) who edged an unlucky Norm Coleman and Ray Massey (34) by one stroke, with Bill Lowrie (36), Ian Jones, Dave Murray and Terry Strickland (37) all coming close with balls going down to 39 strokes.
Thursday’s cooler weather took its toll on the later groups as 73 players braved the cool wind with Ray Massey winning on the Blue with an excellent 22 points, ahead of Ray Minette (19) and a group of three separated on countback with John Taylor, Norm Coleman and Phil Latham scoring well with 18 points each and ball prizes going down to 15.
On the Red it was Greg House who scored an excellent 19 points thanks to his birdie on the 7th, with a valiant Dave Holdsworth (18) overcoming his indigestion after downing a large bowl of chips prior to play to finish one shot off the pace.
Following close behind was John Gonera (17), Steve Ambrose (16) and Steve Hutchinson, Graham "Ribs" Reimer, Ted Latta and Frank Mundy and ball prizes going down to 13.
