Spearheaded by two teenage talents, Ben Lukies and Harry Paterson, Katamatite clinched a 42-run triumph on its home deck.
Lukies crafted a crucial half-century with the bat, while Paterson starred with the ball to collect impressive figures of 4-13.
The round five result lifts Katty up into second position ahead of the Hawks.
“It’s always nice to beat a quality side like Barooga,” Katamatite coach Brayden Beaton said.
“I was really happy to bounce back (after last week’s loss) and it was great to see a couple of young guys play crucial roles.”
Lukies kicked proceedings off with a sublime knock in Barooga’s first innings.
The 18-year-old opener crunched 62 runs from 120 deliveries, with 11 boundaries to his name.
Some late fireworks from bowler Jimmy Irvine lifted Katty to 6-194 from 45 overs.
Irvine pummelled three sixes and five boundaries in an unbeaten 52 from 32 deliveries.
Barooga opening quick Will Sharp was the pick of the bowlers with his handy 3-20.
The home side got off to a white-hot start with the ball and had Barooga 2-25.
However, Kale Watkins (38 runs) and Hawks skipper Riley Gow (28) put on 59 runs for the third-wicket partnership.
In stepped young gun Paterson.
The off-spinner dismissed both batters on his way to standout figures of 4-13.
The Hawks were left in disarray and managed 152 in reply.
Beaton praised the performance of his star trio.
“Ben really anchored the innings at the top of the order,” he said.
“He faced 120 balls and showed a lot of patience. It was good to see him score some runs.
“Harry was fantastic with the ball and he picked up the important wicket of Gow. He did a great job to grab 4-13, it was a shame he couldn’t bowl more than six overs and grab a fifth wicket.
“And Jimmy got his maiden senior half-century which was nice to see. He can really whack a ball when he gets his eye in.”
Around the grounds, Tocumwal suffered a mammoth 104-run loss to Nathalia and Cobram faced the bye.
In B-grade action, Strathmerton went down by two wickets to Cobram.
James Daniel starred with 4-7 for Cobram in the win.
And Katamatite’s B-grade side ensured it was a happy clubroom on Saturday night with a 75-run win over Barooga.
