Mulwala: Jack Sutherland 8, Dylan Robinson 3, Bodhi Butts 1, Jamie Smith 1, Bradley Wilson 1, Jackson Gash 1, Dillon Kirchen 1.
Best: Finley: Benji Neal, Sam Hatty, Matt Jackson, Nick Robertson, Cameron Isedale, Angus Robertson.
Mulwala: Jack Sutherland, Jackson Gash, Zach Scott, Lachlan Rouel, Sean Johns, Bodhi Butts.
The undefeated senior team were excited by the prospect of the wide open wings of the Finley Recreation Reserve and the run and carry football on show early highlighted the strengths of the Mulwala team.
Zach Scott and Johnsy were using their blistering speed throughout the first quarter setting up many forward moves enabling Jack and Dylan to get on the scoreboard.
A four goal to zero first quarter didn’t fully justify the control of the ball that Mulwala had throughout the quarter.
The second quarter with the wind at their backs saw the delivery coming into the forward line from Gashy, Buttsy, Matty and Braddy sharpen right up and the forwards were taking advantage in front of goal.
Finley were pressing but the backline led by Lach Rouel and Pickle Beams were applying great pressure on the Finley forwards causing mistakes and then moving the ball out of their backline with direct disposal allowing Mulwala to take a handy 9 goal lead into half-time.
The second half saw Finley applying a lot more pressure on Mulwala and the game became a much tighter contest, several injuries saw Mulwala short on players towards the end of the game making Wally Thomson play ruck for most of the last quarter and acquitting himself well.
The straight kicking of Jack Sutherland finishing with 8 goals assisted Mulwala and when Mr. Unselfish Brad Wilson handballed a gimme goal to Young Dillon Kirchen the game was over.
A bye this week and then some very tough games coming up will be great to see where the team is leading into the halfway mark of the season.
Reserves
Finley 6.2.38 defeated Mulwala 4.13.37.
Undermanned is an understatement when you have to call on several over 40’s clubmen to make up numbers in the reserves.
A tight contest early saw Mulwala under pressure for one of the first times this season. Andy was brilliant around the ground and giving Matty, Kyle and Joey first use of the ball from the ruck contests.
Some old blokes were more worried about their hamstrings than their goalkicking and the inaccuracy was costing Mulwala.
The backline of Lingy, Woody and Henry were holding up well and Josh Ednie and Josh Eder were playing some great footy on the open wings.
A tight contest all day saw Mulwala down by a point with little time to go when Glenn Sullivan took mark of the year, however, with boots as old as some of the players on the field, he was unlucky not to convert and see glory.
A close loss that could have gone either way but great effort showed by all players throughout the day.
Goals: Josh Ednie 1, Austin Frauenfelder 1, Andrew Miller 1, Owen Conway 1.
Best: Matthew McLachlan, Joseph Bland, Cameron Carling, Andrew Miller, Owen Conway, Austin Frauenfelder.
Thirds
Finley 10.13.73 defeated Mulwala 0.2.2.
The Thirds were always going to have a tough day at the office coming up against another top team and after acquitting themselves well against Echuca the week before were following up again with a brilliant first quarter.
The pressure from the backline was great and Jett, Harry and Dillon were getting plenty of the ball through the middle.
A second quarter lapse saw Finley pile on some goals and the energy was sapping from the lads quickly.
The second half saw the whole team step up and their constant pressure ensured the scoreboard stayed acceptable to the end.
Michael Paine having a run in the midfield was good all day and Josh and Ethan also played their roles well.
Best: Jett Peters, Harry Barker, Dillon Kirchen, Michael Paine, Josh Eder, Ethan Lay.
Fourths
Finley 1.1.7 defeated by Mulwala 19.19.133.
The Fourths had another convincing victory and were once again brilliant all over the ground. Ollie Watson and Van were in everything early as usual and Beau, Ollie Nagle and Sam were getting plenty of the ball.
Archie, Jace and Kade were good down back on the rare occasions the ball went down there and after half time coach Kreeck was moving the magnets to give all the boys a look at the footy.
The boys were sharing the football around well and not crowding the forward line too much with the end result having 13 goal scorers throughout the day.
A week off and then a top of the table clash with the undefeated Moama will certainly find out how the boys are going.
Goals: Jai Sneddon 3, Van Kreeck 3, Maiko Leith 2, Oliver Nagle 2, Parker Lappin 1, Nate Leith 1, Sonny O’Brien 1, Tige Sanderson 1, Axel Saunders 1, Beau Sissons 1, Sonny Sneddon 1, Sam Tayler 1, Oliver Watson 1.
Best: Oliver Watson, Van Kreeck, Sam Tayler, Beau Sissons, Archie Purtle, Oliver Nagle.
