The Roar, who sit just one point behind the ladder-leading Albury United, took the title race to the final round on Sunday, downing Twin City in a thriller away from home.
With scores locked at 1-1 through much of the encounter, it took an 88th-minute Anthony Corso strike to break the deadlock.
Cobram coach Vince Iannucci labelled the game a “cliffhanger”.
“I remember looking at my watch and there was a minute and 37 seconds on it and I thought ‘gee, that’s a good time to get that’,” Iannuci said.
“I was pretty happy and relieved, the race is still alive now, it’s all down to the last game.”
Iannucci highlighted the performance of both Anthony and Tom Corso, with Taner Tekin playing well in defence and Luke Goodin also doing well.
“Most of them played quite well,” he said.
“Aaron Feldtmann will come back in this week and then next week we get everyone back for the first week of finals.”
This weekend the Roar face a must-win encounter against Wodonga Diamonds away from home, with title rivals Albury United facing an away day to Myrtleford.
“I absolutely think we’re a chance of winning the league,” Iannucci said.
“Myrtleford are no pushovers, especially not at home.
“It’s all up to United, we’re not the ones that are feeling any heat.
“We’ll be trying to keep some tabs on the game that is going on in Myrtleford, but not withstanding we’ve still got to win our own game.”
The Roar will play their last game of the regular season at Wodonga’s La Trobe ground on Sunday at 3pm.
If Cobram win and Albury United lose, the title will be the Roar’s.

A young reserves team took on Twin City in the second last game of the home-and-away season. Some great play from the young team went unrewarded in the first half, going in to the break down 1-0.
A strong second half start saw the Roar dominate, with Rocky Perri missing a one-on-one before Cooper Sorrenti scored a great goal to level the score. With minutes to go Twin City scored to take the lead and eventual win.
Best on goes to Jordan Kelly, Cooper Sorrenti and Layne Haley.
Division Two Women
Cobram Roar 2 defeated Twin City 0

The ladies had a good win over Twin City with two young and up-and-coming stars scoring the goals: Helena Zito and Lara Hyde. The team travels to Wodonga Diamonds next week in what should be a good contest in the last game of the home-and-away season, first versus third.
Goals: Helena Zito 1, Lara Hyde 1

Cobram Roar 0 lost to Wodonga Diamonds White 6
Roar came up against a fast and determined side. Goalkeepers Alex Hawke in the first half and Ayden Burrows in the second did some great saves. Some attacking players had great runs towards goals — Dante Zito, Sam Osborne and Alex in the second half — but were shut down quickly by Diamonds defenders. There were some great passages of play, Roar were unlucky to not score.
