The boys played against a second placed Wodonga Raiders at Birralee Park on Sunday. Even though the boys were convincingly beaten on the scoreboard, their effort to play out the day was a credit to each and every player.
The backline made up of Dylan Nicholson playing his best game for the year, Memphis Bramich and Cohen Cuskelly took on a strong Raiders forward line.
The midfield Nate Williams, Sam Bigger, Charlie Rae rallied hard all day while the forward line with Levi Saunders, Tobi Farrell and Baden Sage tried hard with the opportunities they were given.
This week the Pigeons take on Corowa at Wahgunyah Recreation Reserve on Sunday.
Goals: Zac Forge 1, Levi Saunders 1, Ryder Stevens 1, Mitch Appleby 1.
Best: Nate Williams, Memphis Bramich, Charlie Rae, Samuel Bigger, Levi Saunders, Cohen Cuskelly.
Under 14s
Wodonga Raiders Blue 12.11.83 def Yarrawonga 6.1.37.
The Under 14s were soundly beaten by a taller Raiders Blues side. Undermanned through illness and unavailability, the Yarra boys played bravely.
Connor McCarty was strong and gains in confidence each week. Miller Smith continues to lead by example.
Jack Van Den Bosch had his best game, laying a crunching tackle in the third term that resulted in a goal.
Will Thomson and Zep Bramich chimed in for a goal each. Beaten but far from disgraced.
At the start of the game, the boys each presented their mother with a flower.
Thank you coach Tonna for the gesture. Next Sunday the Pigeons play Corowa with a 11am start at Wahgunyah.
Goals: Cooper Webster, James Cummins, Connor McCarty, Wil Thomson, Zep Bramich, Cooper Clark.
Best: Connor McCarty, Miller Smith, Archie Skehan, Archie Jaques, Cooper Clark, James Cummins.
