Blasters flex their muscles with strong win over Warriors

Seymour Blasters made it two wins on the trot to begin 2022, easily accounting for Wangaratta Warriors 78-62 at Seymour Sports and Aquatic Centre on Saturday night.

A Keenan Gorski offensive masterclass was the catalyst for the Blasters’ triumph, as he carried the load to drop a game-high 29 points and make up for a tough shooting night for the remainder of his teammates.

Looking to continue the strong momentum gained by its performance against Wodonga last weekend, Seymour was relatively flat in the opening period, lacking its usual rhythm on the offensive end to be trailing by one point at the first change.

In dire need of a spark, Gorski produced as the Blasters showed their class and managed to get on top thanks to a blistering 20-11 run in the second stanza.

Carrying an eight-point advantage into the third quarter, Seymour continued to find its groove offensively, with clever passing and improved shooting seeing it extend the lead into double digits.

The game was well in control at the final change, with the Blasters holding a healthy 14-point advantage.

Having fallen victim of falling away in the dying stages over recent weeks, Seymour made it a mission to maintain its strong defensive intensity through the final quarter.

Keeping Wangaratta to just 18 points in the last, the Blasters managed to extend their lead by two when the buzzer sounded to walk away with a convincing 16-point win.

Along with Gorski’s standout performance, Seymour also got contributions out of Tyler Best (10 points) and Abraham Solano (nine points), while Liam Wright was gallant for the Warriors, finishing with 12 points.

The win sees Seymour solidify its position as the team to beat in the North East division with just two rounds to go.

However, next week shapes as the side’s toughest to date, as it makes the trip to Benalla to take on the second-placed Breakers.

The Seymour Blasters’ girls team enjoyed the bye in round six and will resume its season next weekend when it also travels to Benalla to face the Breakers.
