Mr Davis was meeting Ms Cole after assisting the Benalla Young Sportsperson’s Trust with a donation, and it subsequently being able to offer her some funding.
That funding was already a BYSPT record of $3000 to allow her to continue to travel to competitions around the country.
Ms Cole is a Benalla-based, para-canoeist, who has been fundraising for several months.
On top of needing money to get to events she has also been doing her best to fund a new canoe, and a new paddle.
Due to a spinal condition Ms Cole requires a special paddle, and has been fortunate to receive second-hand ones donated to her.
However, receiving a brand-new, custom-made paddle will mean a world of difference.
“It’s really exciting as using my current paddle I’ve (injured) my shoulder, so I’ve been suffering through the pain,” Ms Cole said.
“It will be an amazing to have a new paddle that will relieve the stress and make paddling a lot easier.”
Cr Davis, said Peter Davis Rural was happy to do its bit for BYSPT.
“Peter Davis Rural are pleased to be able to offer this sponsorship to the trust and I’m looking forward to seeing how Natalia-Drew’s canoeing progresses,“ he said.
“Things like BYSPT are very important and brings this whole town together.
“We have people who are able to contribute financially and there are a lot of people who contribute their time.”
BYSPT Trustee Geoff Hill said it was pleased to be able to assist Ms Cole
“We have, over the years, had people compete up to national level,” he said.
“But due to Natalia’s performances this will be our single biggest donation which is great, because what we are trying to do is support local youths to achieve their ambitions and goals.”
