Under-14 Bulldogs
Our first trip to Mansfield and we were greeted with another warm day.
With only one player still injured from the last game, we had a large bench of players, and it was needed as Mansfield had us chasing them for most of the game.
Thankfully they weren’t kicking straight and despite 20 scoring shots, they had only kicked six goals to half-time.
It was late in the second quarter when we eventually kicked our first goal and all the play shifted to our end of the ground for the next few minutes, but we couldn’t capitalise on our chances.
We started strong in the third quarter scoring early, but Mansfield lifted a gear and kicked away.
A hard tackle to one of our players at the third-minute mark of the last quarter saw the rest of the game abandoned while we waited for an ambulance.
Thank you to Dirk Ring and Mansfield’s medical officer who took great care with our player while they waited for the ambulance to arrive.
Goalkickers: Oscar Beaton 2.
Best Players: Connor Breheny, Angus Richardson, Ryder Robertson, Nate Nicholas, Max Beaton and Lucas Ham.
Under-17 Bulldogs
A trip to Mansfield on a sunny Sunday was dampened by a resounding defeat from the home side.
The boys started well with Rory Sammon kicking the first goal followed shortly behind Jaidyn Chee.
However, with the wide wings and long ground, Mansfield got their running game going and it was hard to curtail.
Thanks to the hard tackling of Darcy Pastuszka and rebound defence of Ryan Storer we were able to stay in the game. Angus Arbuthnot’s first game was a beauty and worked tirelessly all day as did Albert Moll.
Goalkickers: Albert Moll 2, Jaidyn Chee 1, Rory Sammon 1.
Best Players: James Cooke, Darcy Pastuszka, Ryan Storer, Angus Arbuthnot, Shaalv Deo and Albert Moll.
Under-12 Giants
Under-12 Giants travelled to Myrtleford, treated to warm conditions and having no bench rotations testing the fitness and endurance of all players.
The game was played in great spirits with the ball continually moving up and down the ground.
Although the Giants had ample opportunities, a failure to convert field positions into goals ended up being the difference with Myrtleford making the most of their opportunities.
The Giants midfield was superb with Amy Lowe shouldering majority of the ruck responsibilities, feeding it down to the likes of Tom Mount, Xavier DeFazio and Harry Skelton.
Half forwards Eli McKean, Jude Binion, Riley McCarthy and Charlie Bowen worked tirelessly, with the backline lead by Angus Leavold and Harry Bast.
A special mention to all Giants players who helped out Myrtleford throughout the day to even up the numbers.
Goalkickers: Tom Mount 3.
Best Players: Tom Mount, Angus Leavold, Amy Lowe, Charlie Bowen, Harry Bast and Harry Skelton.

On a sunny Myrtleford day, the Benalla Giants Under-14s started well off the mark scoring 45 points in the first quarter.
They continued scoring well getting up to 108 at the end of the third quarter.
The boys in the last quarter were tired as they didn’t have any bench because of a couple of injuries, but managed four goals in the last quarter to have a great win over Myrtleford.

Under-17 Giants
The Under-17 Giants travelled to Myrtleford to take on the Saints. Myrtleford started the game well, beating the Giants to the ball and giving their forwards first use in the first half.
The Giants had a better second half to run out the game. Thanks to Cooper Binion for stepping up from the Under-14s and not looking out of place at all.
Goalkickers: Sam Cox 3, Ryley Ely 1.
