Round nine, 2015, at Barooga Recreation Reserve
Barooga 19.10 (124) d Echuca United 15.10 (100)
Defence went out the window in the final term of this clash as both sides kicked seven goals in the final term.
Forwards feasted on their opportunities at both ends as Matt Demaio booted six for the Hawks, while Guy Campbell was a strong performer with five in a losing effort.
‘‘We dominated most of the match and kept control of the ball,’’ Barooga coach Leigh Ramsdale said of his side’s performance.
‘‘It was a good win against a quality side, particularly as Echuca beat us twice last year.’’
Demaio was named best afield with Nat Nixon also performing strongly.
Cobram v Congupna
Elimination final, 2019, at Numurkah Showgrounds
Congupna 15.6 (96) d Cobram 7.11 (53)
Congupna’s first finals win in decades arrived in dominant fashion last year, tossing aside the Tigers by 43 points.
The Road trailed at the first change, but booted six goals to one in the second stanza to take control of the clash.
Daniel Campbell ended up with five goals – and Jak Trewin four – for Congupna, while Sam Beasley battled hard for Cobram.
Congupna went on to defeat Echuca United in the next round of knockout action before falling to Nathalia in the preliminary final.
Deniliquin Rovers v Tocumwal
Round eight, 2016, at Deniliquin Recreation Reserve
Deniliquin Rovers 8.8 (56) d Tocumwal 8.6 (54)
A brave final quarter fightback from the Rovers helped them secure a tense and breathtaking two-point victory against the Bloods.
On their home deck, the Rovers ran over the top of Tocumwal with four goals in the last quarter, as they overturned a 21-point deficit at three-quarter-time.
Andrew May was in sublime form for the Rovers, while teammates Nick Braybon and Dylan May gave strong contributions.
And for Tocumwal, gun trio Scott Baldwin, Max Brooks and Matt Petersen tried their hardest to stop the flow of goals as their side faded out of the contest.
Strathmerton v Yarroweyah
Grand final, 2010, at Jerilderie
Strathmerton 5.12 (42) d Yarroweyah 4.4 (28)
In a low-scoring affair, Strathmerton was able to complete the fairy tale after it came from fourth to win the premiership.
Both sides were only able to kick three goals to the final change before the Bulldogs charged home – kicking to 2.7 in the game’s last 30 minutes.
Brent Arho and Matt Toohey kicked two goals apiece in a losing effort, with the Bulldogs finishing the game with five individual goal-kickers.
Stephen Dickinson, Jye Bunge, Brent Davis and Jade Shannon were named in the best players for the premiers.
Katamatite v Berrigan
Round six, 2019, at Berrigan
Berrigan 13.14 (92) d Katamatite 6.6 (42)
The Saints absolutely exploded out of the blocks in this contest, piling on 7.5 to a solitary Katamatite behind in the first term.
Neither side could take control of the middle stanzas, but even a five-goal burst in the last quarter from the Tigers only brought them to within 50 points of the home side by the time the final siren sounded.
Ted Walliss booted four goals for the Saints, with Jake Beams adding three.
