Cobram Roar Soccer Club took on Myrtleford in round one of the Albury Wodonga Football Association.

Division 1 men Cobram Roar 0 lost to Myrtleford 3Cobram Roar kicked off the first game away at Myrtleford to mark the start of the 2020 season.
The game got off to a quick start, with some creative play from the Myrtleford side combining to open up the scoring with a goal in the 15th minute.
Cobram responded with strong defence and pressure throughout the rest of the first half to hold the score at 1-0 going into the half-time break.
The second half saw Cobram continue to look for the net, combing in a number of opportunities, but had no luck with finding the back of the net.
With the experience among the front three, Myrtleford scored in the 60th and 75th minute to close off the scoring at 3-0.
Cobram coach Bill Puckett said: “Losing 3-0 on your first game of the season is never an ideal way to start the campaign, however playing away at a team who have competed in the last five grand finals and winning three of them we held ourselves accountable.”
He was pleased with the commitment shown by the team and believed the players set the bar high on work ethic.
The game came down to one side being more clinical that the other and unfortunately that went Myrtleford’s way.
“Thankfully there’s plenty more games ahead and if we can show the same desire and effort, the fine tuning will come the more we train and play, which will leave ourselves in a good position when it matters at the end of the season,” Puckett said.Standout performers for the day were captain Marius Williams and midfield duo of Will Seabrook and Cobram debutant Raul Pahina.Next week sees Cobram away against Wangaratta City.

Division 3 menCobram Roar 5 defeated Myrtleford 0The first round saw the team play with the commitment and enthusiasm followers are used to seeing from this team.
A few new players have added to the skill of the team.
Michael Millar bagged the first goal of the season, leading by example as the elder statesman of the team.
Anthony Corso kicked two and Kelsey Lissington, Rocky Perri and New Suphun added to the tally with a goal each.
Under-16 Cobram Roar 1 lost to Myrtleford 5Cobram Roar’s under-16s played Myrtleford in the first game of the season.
Kick off was early and and Roar took the first half to warm up, conceding four goals to 0.
After half time, the young Roar side played as a team, scoring a goal with Toby Shilling’s impressive header.
It was soon followed by another goal, but ruled as ‘offside’, much to the fans displeasure.
One more goal conceded in the final 10 minutes brought the final score to 5-1 in Myrtleford’s favour.Caleb Tanner was a stand out being very strong defensively and gave everything he had.
Rocky Perri supported the defence as a midfielder, while Jack Koschel, a new player to under-16s, did his job well by tagging his opponent and keeping him out of the game.
Goalkeeper Charlie Paterson was very responsive, controlling the attack when Myrtleford was moving forward.
He kicked the balls out into safety on various occasions, which proved vital.
Although the first game of the season was not a win, the second half showed the potential of what the side can bring to the 2020 season.
Under-14 boysCobram Roar 0 drew with Myrtleford 0Cobram Roar's under 14s played the season opener against premiere rivals Myrtleford at Savoy Park.
Cobram's forward line fought hard, though unfortunately could not get a ball in the back of the net.
The defence held strong and goalkeeper Jordan Kelly did not let one slip by. Teams were evenly matched, no goals scored.
The side is looking forward to playing Wangaratta City next week hoping to get a score on the board.
Under-14 girls Cobram Roar 9 defeated Myrtleford 1The under-14 girls took to the pitch with great enthusiasm for the first game of the season.
Their skill, commitment and great teamwork saw them walk away with a convincing 9-1 win.
Alexia Corso won the forward with four. Casey Chandler proved she is a promising young player by netting three, while Ella Janssens and Annie Oliver both walked away with a goal each.
All girls played well and contributed to the fantastic win. A great start to the season.
Under-13Cobram Roar 8 defeated Myrtleford 0With a warm start to the season, Roar was on the road to face Myrtleford.
With a few new players, Roar was very keen to start the season the way it had left off 2019.
With the new additions to the team, Roar took about 10 minutes to settle down before the first goal was scored.
Once this goal was scored, the team settled down and took control of the game.
Roar was able to push forward and score another seven goals to record its first for the season.

Under-12 boys Cobram Roar 14 defeated Myrtleford 0Cobram Roar's under-12 boys started the 2020 season playing Myrtleford in Myrtleford.
Roar started strongly and players moved the ball around like they had been playing together for months.
It was a team effort with all players playing their role within the team which resulted in a great win and the perfect start to the season.
