The Tigers went down to Finley on the weekend, 16.13 (109) to 9.7 (61), leaving Josh Noonan and his troops in sixth spot on the table.
Noonan's charges face fifth-placed Mulwala in the last round and, despite sitting four points and 14 percentage points behind fourth-placed Tongala, are still mathematically in the hunt for a double chance.
If the Tigers can secure a handy victory, they will hope Nathalia deals a hefty bow to the Blues to complete the about 150-point swing Cobram would need to overtake Tongala.
Against the Cats on Saturday, the likes of Adam De Cicco, Luca Allen, Kade Zito, Tom Scott, Max Mackay and Cadeyn Williams battled hard for Cobram, but a second-quarter lapse put the side too far back in the contest.
After trailing by 17 points at the first change the Tigers managed just one goal to Finley's seven in the second stanza and could not recover, despite winning the second half.
Williams, along with Steven Stallion and Darcy McCormack, managed two majors for the Tigers in the defeat, with Mackay, Jackson Neville and Daniel Clarke all slotting one.
