CJSA president Mario Pardo felt the day was a fantastic way to end the season.
“This is what we build up for over the whole season,” Pardo said.
“It is great to have kids running around on these fields on a lovely day – it’s all about kids having fun and enjoying themselves.''
CJSA currently has 36 teams and 324 children in its program, ranging from under-5s to under-13s. The association also runs the only all-girl Miniroos competition in Goulburn North East Victoria and Pardo hopes the female participation numbers continue to grow.
“We have always had girls' squads but this year I have emphasised it even more,” he said.
“It has been really great this year and for the first time ever Cobram Junior Soccer Association will have a girls' representative side playing in Football Skool Cup in Shepparton and they will hopefully come home with a trophy.”
CJSA plays matches in Cobram as well as Finley and Yarrowonga, with each of these locations represented by gala day-winning teams: Chelsea (under-13 winner) and Barcalona (under-11 winner) from Finley; Manchester United (under-9 winner) from Yarrowonga; and Juventus (under-11 girls' winner) from Cobram.
Finals results:
Under-13s: Chelsea 2 b Manchester United 0
Under-11s: Barcelona 1 b Inter Milan
Under-11 girls: Juventus 1 Manchester United 0
Under-9s: Manchester United 1 b Cobram 0
CJSA also recognised the hard-work of Finley-based volunteer Katy Wallace who was named Club Person of the Year. She has been involved with the association for the best part of a decade and her tireless organisational work has helped promote the game in Finley and district.
