Areas between land and rivers called riparian areas are prone to weed invasion for a number of reasons, including favourable environmental conditions, flood events which move weed seeds and high levels of human activity.
North Central CMA will have presenters speak on weed management programs to achieve positive outcomes in riparian areas.
Agriculture Victoria biosecurity manager Ben Perry will discuss riparian weed identification and representatives from the Ashbourne Landcare Weed Action Group will share their experiences of local control efforts.
The workshop coincides with North Central CMA projects, Caring for the Campaspe and A Healthy Coliban Catchment, to improve the health of waterways in the upper Campaspe and Coliban catchments.
Caring for Campaspe has provided fencing, off-stream watering, weed control and revegetation incentives with land managers on both public and privately owned land along the length of the Campaspe River since 2012.
A Healthy Coliban Catchment is a joint 20-year plan with the North Central CMA and Dja Dja Wurrung Clans Aboriginal Corporation to protect water quality, fauna and flora, and cultural history of the area along the Coliban River and its tributaries upstream of Malmsbury Reservoir.
Landholders can attend the workshop at the Marsh Court Reserve in Woodend, from 9 am to 11.30 am on Sunday, February 16, where a free coffee van and fact sheets will be available.
Registrations for the workshop close on Wednesday, February 12.
