An 82-year-old man, believed to be from Berrigan, died at the scene and a woman, aged 79 who was airlifted to Canberra Hospital in a critical condition, died a week later on Thursday, April 28.
A third person travelling in the front seat in the car involved, a white Mitsubishi ASX, suffered substantial injuries and is recovering in the Alfred Hospital Melbourne, having initially been conveyed to Albury Hospital from the crash site. The 74-year-old is believed to be from Mulwala.
Around 9.30am emergency services were called to the Riverina Highway near Bull Plain Road, Rennie after a Toyota Landcruiser towing a caravan and the white Mitsubishi ASX collided. Three people were trapped in the Mitsubishi.
The 75-year-old male driver and female passenger of the Landcruiser were not injured. They assisted police with inquiries.
A crime scene was established and examined by officers attached to Murray River Police District.
The Riverina Highway and Bull Plain Road were closed in both directions with traffic diversions in place, with traffic divert eastbound via Savernake Road and westbound via Bull Plain Road.
Investigations into the crash continue and any witnesses or anyone with dashcam vision is urged to contact police.
A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
